Graffiti
When you are driving into a city you see graffiti everywhere! Some people consider it vandalism and others a way of art. Graffiti has existed since ancient times, from paintings in the caves of France in Lascaux, to Egyptian hieroglyphics, graffiti has made a huge impact in art. One of the most famous artist Michelangelo, known for his famous painting in the Sistine Chapel in Rome, was also known for his "graffiti". In a news article I found on the internet, Vincenzo Sansonetti, an art historian, said that the Michelangelo sketches showed the he was "the greatest graffiti artist of all time". http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/article1130810.ece more of the article talks about how he was unable to stop "doodling" while he was in a cellar beneath San Lorenzo, where he passed the time drawing on the walls.
I think graffiti is pretty self reflected. Since its been around in a sense since cavemen time its cool to see how its transformed into a widespread phenomena of artistic ability and creativity. Sweet pictures!
