I've always been a big fan of animal art. The unique characteristics and essence of each painting, drawing, and photograph just fascinates me. One artist in particular has always stood out from the rest, and I guess in a way has inspired me to continue drawing animals. The artist Eric Peake specializes in panting parrots using highly detailed transparent watercolor, Peake has exhibited art in prominent galleries in the United States and his native United Kingdom. His success has allowed him to contribute to bird organizations through fundraising and lecturing. He speaks at conferences for international avian groups, and is the founder and organizer of The United Kingdom Parrot Conference. Being a owner and old rescuer before my move to Maryland I've not only saved so many neglected and miss understood parrots lives, but have also had some extremely amazing art subjects. Thanks to the help of Jake (Cockatoo) and Zazu (African Grey) that still live with my family down in Florida, I get to still do what I love best and thats drawing parrots.

  1. I really like bird art too. I have had several birds in the past, and a parakeet now. I really like looking at bird paintings because there is so much detail involved. The detail of the feathers, or the indent in the beak, and so much more. I think that each artist paints or draws their own version of the bird, but each bird has their own personality and that is conveyed through the painting. I have seen some of Eric Peake's work, and really like how much detail he puts into the paintings and how he uses color. In some paintings of parakeets, he uses light blues, and in others, he uses drastic blue colors. He is a great artist.

  2. I am scared to DEATH of birds. My friend recently got this beautiful red bird that looks like a parrot but I'm not sure the actual type of bird that it is, but it is probably 5 inches tall and it is remarkable. They let it fly around their comfy home and it has no issues with their two dogs. But even though I wouldn't hold the bird-let alone let it out of it's cage during my visit- I could see how whimsical and delicate their feathers were. There stature in general is very bold and proud. These portraits are beautiful-nice find!
